German Court decides on further online gambling restrictions

A German high court decided that online gambling licenses from the former east German regions are only valid in the region where the license was issued. This severly restricts the operations of some larger international online gaming companies, who used these licenses, issued before the German reunification, to offer services throughout the country.

However, the largest online operator already interpreted the verdict as one that would only apply in the region where the ruling was issued...

Like many other federal countries, Germany is struggling with its regionalised gambling competences, which have little effect on the Internet world. An interregional treaty should make an end to this. The heads of the regions decided earlier this week to create a interregional working group to create by December this year a draft treaty that would enforce the state betting monopolies.
