Dutch Court ban Maltese betting site

The Court of Utrecht (Netherlands) has made a ruling against online betting site Unibet, which operates from Malta and Antigua. In its ruling, the Court ordered the online betting site to stop offering bets to Dutch citizen, imposing a non-compliance penalty of €100,000 per day.

The case was brought foreward by the Dutch Lotto, who holds the single license for sportsbetting in Holland. The matter became headline news after a top football coach claimed in the press last week that many professional Dutch football players were betting on their matches through illegal betting sites like Unibet.
